Publix Coupon Policy

by Nicole on May 29, 2009

I have been receiving many emails from readers who have had trouble at Publix when using a coupon for each item when you buy 2 items as part of a Buy 1 Get 1 FREE promotion. I have never had problems doing this at Publix but decided to email to request their coupon policy since I was receiving more and more emails on the topic. Their policy clearly states that you CAN use 2 coupons, 1 for each item, even if on a BOGO deal. I suggest printing this and bringing it with you to the store and if you have problems that the manager doesn’t help with, contact Customer Service for resolution of the issue.

Here is the email I received from Publix Customer Service when I asked for their coupon policy:

“Thank you for your email. We appreciate our customers taking the time to contact us. At your request, we have provided our coupon policy below. Please see the store management if you have questions or concerns.

We will always comply with all rules and regulations that are printed on a coupon.

If a product is on a Buy One and Get One Free promotion you can use one manufacturer’s coupon on each item.

If a product is purchased with a Buy One and Get One Free manufacturer coupon no other manufacturer’s coupon can be used on the same item.

There is a limit of one Manufacturer’s coupon and one Publix coupon per item if no limit is mentioned.

Publix will accept “cents off” Internet Coupons for $5.00 or less. We will accept “free product” Internet coupons for $5.00 or less. We also reserve the right to reject any Internet coupon that does not appear to be legitimate or does not scan properly. Internet coupons valued over $5.00 should be approved by a Manager or Customer Service Team Leader.

Also, we accept traditional supermarket competitor coupons. Please see your store manager for more details, as there is no written policy on this.

Again, thank you for taking the time to contact us. If we can be of any further assistance regarding this matter, please either call our Consumer Relations toll-free number at 1-800-242-1227, write us at the Publix Super Markets Corporate Office, PO Box 407, Lakeland, FL 33802, ATTN: Consumer Relations, or contact us at our website, and mention your reference number”

I just had an issue with using the Purina $3.50 off coupon on the BOGO deal on Beneful. They told me they could only accept one coupon since the total of the two coupons exceeded the total price of the item. I stated to the clerk and her manager that this was not their policy and that if they didn’t honor my coupons, I would not take the items, go home and print their policy and return. They did accept the coupons but adjusted down the second so the total discounted matched the sale price. I didn’t argue with this since your post and their email did not address the issue of overage and it seemed fair. Do you know if this is their policy? Thanks for all the great info.

I have gotten overages at Publix but I’m not sure what their policy is on the issue. You can email them through the website and they do respond promptly! How did the cashier know there would be an overage? The coupon doesn’t beep and when I go, I always have a bunch of items so the overage isn’t noticed. That’s why I’m not sure.
