TJMaxx and Marshalls – an "Off-Price" Spendervention!

by Nicole on June 11, 2009

Have you seen the “Spendervention” TV spots showing how shoppers nationwide are staging interventions to tell their friends all about “off-price” shopping? They are so cute and I was thrilled to be ask to do a little shopping at Marshalls and TJMaxx and let my readers know all about it!

What is “off-price”? “Off-price” is all about high quality at a low cost. The companies are able to do this through opportunistic buying where their fabulous buyers search the world to find amazing deals for the consumer. They are able to do this because of their large size (combined 1630 stores nationwide), flexible buying policies (can buy a few pieces or thousands since each item doesn’t have to be found in each store), and no-frills displays, among other reasons.

I have shopped at TJMaxx and Marshalls since I was young and am always happy when I get a great bargain! It’s nice to know sometimes that you don’t have to wait for a sale and there’s no coupons to clip!

I was visiting a friend out-of-state and needed a hostess gift as well as something small for her 2 young kids. I decided to use my Marshalls giftcard that I got through the Spendervention program. I was able to get 4 super cute items for just $30.00!

I was able to get a Strawberry Shortcake Doll for her daughter, a Cars etch-a-sketch with book for her son, and an adorable container of 4 pastel ice cream bowls, along with 4 ice cream spoons with animals on the handles for her and her husband (who may have a slight ice cream addiction). It was one-stop shopping at its best and the gifts I selected were perfect for each recipient. If I had shopped individually for each person I would have likely spent over $100 on the “perfect” gifts.

I don’t have a picture of my TJMaxx trip but was able to get a credit card wallet, a mixing bowl, a frying pan, and a T-shirt for my $25!

According to the buyers at TJMaxx and Marshalls, a true value is a combination of fashion, quality, brand, and price! More than 10,000 new items are delivered to stores each week. Even if you go frequently you’ll always find something different.

Did you know that…
*over 95% of the merchandise is first quality?
* over 85& of the merchandise is current season?

They say that TJMaxx and Marshalls are THE place for a chic recessionista to shop this season – and I think I have to agree!

Good timing. I just got back from TJMaxx. I have to confess, I haven't been shopping there lately because we just have had little to no extra money to shop with these days. But, tonight I splurged and got myself the cutest brightly colored purse and this totally awesome "emergency preparedness" book/binder/accordian file (clearanced for only $3.00!!!) and another one just like it but for college scouting and things college related. I got that for my nephew because next year he is a senior and this will help him start organizing everything from business cards of colleges he visits to where he has applied and what loans/grants and scholarships he has requested. It, too, was only $3.00 and both of these book binder file things (sorry, just don't have a perfect word for them LOL) really are nice quality books!
