The decision clincher for us was all the people in the store who stopped and said "wow, you have GOT to buy one of these. You'll love it!" They were right. In fact, we liked our DC17 so much that we bought another DC28 this year. The Dyson's are pricey, but you'll be amazed at how much they will pull out of your carpet even after you've vacuumed with your other vac. And they're great on hardwood floors as well.
