SWAGG is an awesome mobile app that is FREE (love that part!). It allows you to send, buy and store giftcards so that you have all your info in 1 place! The app works on iPhones and Android phones. I have an Android phone and was able to quickly download the app and set up my account right from the market on my phone.

Besides being able to give and get giftcards you can manage all your store loyalty and rewards cards right on the app. I love getting gifts but I love giving them even more!

The best gift I ever gave wasn’t to family or a friend. It was to someone I barely knew but I think it made the most impact of any gift I ever gave. It didn’t cost me any money really but I was able to make a difference. As many of you know, I am a lawyer at a non-profit helping the poor with their family law cases. I love my job but I experience heartbreak daily. My clients are so poor and are often in abusive situations. The children are usually so effected by their situations and often cycle into the same living situations.

Because of what I see every day, I decided to donate a lot of gently used clothing to a shelter to give to those in need. I had clients who I am sure could benefit from the clothes but wanted my donation to be completely anonymous. Sometime the January after I donated, I had a prospective client come in with a terrible story of abuse. I noticed she was wearing what looked like my old sweater. I complimented her on it and she told me that she had received a lot of clothes from the shelter recently and how she was able to go out and get a good job because she had the clothes to wear to work. She told me she had only had 2 pairs of pants and 2 tops before but now had clothes in her closet and considered the person who donated them to be her “guardian angel” as they came at the time she needed them the most.

I tried not to tear up in front of her but donating those clothes was the best gift I ever gave someone. So often we give gifts that get discarded or re-gifted, but not the gift I gave. I try to donate things each year now in the hopes that I can touch other people’s lives in the same way. So even if you don’t have a lot of money you can still give and make an impact on people!

SWAGG has partnered with non-profit Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C). For every download of the app between now and Dec. 31, 2010, SWAGG will donate $1 to SU2C up to $125,000. Awesome, right?! Visit the SU2C site for more info.
