I love chili but I am not a fan of chunky tomatoes in chili so I created my own no-tomatoes chili recipe! It is tangy and yummy with ground beef or ground turkey – your choice! You can also choose what kind of beans to add. I love pinto beans so that’s what I’ve added but kidney beans would work just as well.
Ingredients
- 3 lbs. ground beef or ground turkey
- 1 onion, diced
- 1 green pepper, diced
- 1 poblano pepper, diced
- 1 jalapeno pepper, seeds and ribs removed, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, chopped
- 1/3 cup Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tsp. oregano
- 2 tsp. cumin
- 5 tbsp. chili powder
- 2 cans pinto beans
- 1 bottle chili sauce (I use Heinz)
- 1 bottle beer
- 1 can beef broth
- 1 can tomato paste
Instructions
- 1. Brown the meat in a large pot.
- 2. Add the onion, green pepper, poblano pepper, jalapeno pepper and garlic and cook for 5 minutes.
- 3. Add Worcestershire sauce, oregano, cumin, and chili powder and cook for 3 minutes.
- 4. Add chili sauce, beer, beef broth, beans and tomato paste (if using), stir and bring to boil.
- 5. Put on low heat and cook for at least 45 minutes (the longer the better!)
- 6. Serve over rice or noodles with shredded cheese and sour cream.

I’ll have to try this out! My husband hates tomatoes, so maybe he’ll like chilli better using this recipe.
Thank you, I would love to try chili without tomatoes!!
That looks delicious, thanks!
hmm I don’t drink so I don’t have beer around, wonder if it would work with something else? I might have to try it without and see how it tastes, then decide lol I’m not a tomato fan so I might end up using it for something else, lol
