Our Yummy Meal at Cantina Laredo

by Nicole on December 17, 2012

My husband, stepson, and I recently ate lunch at Cantina Laredo and were so impressed! I had been there several times before but not recently and I should preface this review by saying that my stepson and I love Mexican food.  When asked where we want to eat we will always choose a Mexican place! My husband likes it but not as much as we do!

We arrived at about noon on a Saturday for lunch and were immediately warmly greeted by the host who sat us immediately  The restaurant was not very busy and we had excellent service.  I assumed the server must have known I was writing a review but she did not.  The service we received was truly exceptional.  The server was knowledgeable, made appropriate recommendations, and was very pleasant.

Our server immediately brought us a basket of chips and 2 different kinds of salsa, one warm and the other cold.  I liked the cold one best but Jamie and Noah liked the warm one.  We ordered soft drinks and guacamole for an appetizer.   The server came to the table to make the guacamole tableside which is a nice touch! I don’t like raw onions so we are able to say no onions and for once I ate the guacamole! It was delicious and the chips were the perfect vessel for the guacamole!

I ordered the Chimichanga de Pollo Poblano which I really enjoyed.  It was a fried flour tortilla filled with chicken, cheese and poblano peppers.    I don’t like rice so I chose 2 kinds of beans, refried beans and borracho beans which are “drunk” beans, pinto beans with beer! Both were yummy!

My husband ordered fajitas which came out sizzling.  The portion was really large for lunch and he said the steak was very tender.

My stepson is a little picky and wanted soft tacos with only ground beef and cheese.  He also got the refried beans and I’m happy to report he cleaned his plate!

We of course had to order dessert and I’m sorry to say I don’t have a picture of the dessert.  We ordered the Mexican Apple pie which was apple pie served in a sizzling skillet with brandy butter and cinnamon ice cream! We all reached for it as soon as it came and the only time I actually thought to take a picture was after we had demolished it!

Check out the Cantina Laredo website for more information, including locations.

I received a complimentary meal for myself and my family.  My opinions remain my own.

i love the tableside guacamole, it feels decadent but is so practical since it doesn’t have to be “preserved” and is wonderfully fresh.
