Nicole’s Recipes: Crock-Pot Mashed Potatoes

by Nicole on January 22, 2013

I hate making mashed potatoes.  It’s a pain to peel them and then boil the water, wait for them to cook, drain them, mash them, etc.  It’s too much time and too many pots and pans.  I was excited to see that you can make mashed potatoes in the Crock-Pot and set out to work on a recipe.  We use this recipe for Thanksgiving – it makes 5 lbs of mashed potatoes and they can stay warm for some time.  We serve them on the buffet line right from the Crock-Pot!

Nicole’s Recipes: Crock-Pot Mashed Potatoes

  • 5 lbs potatoes (I like Yukon Gold), peeled and cut into 1 inch pieces
  • 1.5 cups chicken broth (I use low sodium)
  • 1/4 cup butter. cut into pieces
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup milk or cream

  1. Put potatoes, broth and butter in a large Crock-Pot and cover and cook on high for 4 hours.
  2. Add sour cream and salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Beat with mixer until creamy.
  4. Stir in milk/cream until desired consistency is reached.
  5. Cover and keep warm on warm setting until served, up to 2 hours.

Definitely looking forward to trying this one out. I love homemade mashed potatoes but don’t always have town to make them so loved finding a recipe that I could use to make them in my crock pot. Can’t wait to see how they compare! Thank you.
