The Luxurious Kia Optima SXL

by Nicole on March 17, 2013

So having driven the Kia Rio the week before and enjoying it, I was sure I would enjoy the Kia Optima SXL that Kia brought me and boy was I right! I LOVE this car and think it is a hidden jewel in the car industry right now. This car was fully loaded and I loved the bells and whistles. My favorite feature was the air conditioned seats. This is a great feature to have living in Florida! The car is super sleek and I loved the wheels and the design and curves of the body of the car. This is a super luxurious sedan that doesn’t scrimp on roominess or functionality.

The Kia Optima SXL is their top of the line Kia and the sticker is about $35,000 for the vehicle. This car isn’t cheap by any stretch of the imagination but it has a great value and when compared to other cars in its class it’s a standout. My father has a Jaguar and was even commenting that he thinks this car compares favorably to his! The L in SXL stands for limited package but it could stand for Luxury package as this car has some pretty incredible features on it. My husband just bought a car from another manufacturer from this class and it doesn’t compare in its features.

The SXL has some unique features such as 18-inch chrome wheels, red brake calipers, chrome accent side sills and rear spoiler, LED daytime running lights. It has the previously mentioned air conditioned front seats as well as heated front AND rear seats! Now your kiddos can ride with a warm butt also! I love this for those chilly mornings that we get a few times a year in Florida. Up north this feature is pretty much a necessity. The list of fun features includes Navigation with SiriusXM traffic, RearView camera, Infinity audio system with UVO connectivity for your Smartphone, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, panoramic sunroof, and power folding outside mirrors!

The ride was very firm and it had a great turning radius for a bigger vehicle. It has a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder engine that made the car very quick and I had no complaints about how it drove at all. It was very smooth and comfortable on the highway. I was getting about 27 mpg which is pretty normal for a car in this class.

The Nappa Leather seating is a nice feature and I loved how this car smelled. The new car smell was strong and the leather was soft and looked great. The vehicle I test drove was white on the exterior and white leather in the interior. The color combo was great and there was enough darker gray trim in the car that it went well. The trunk is huge and like most Kias there is no spare tire here just a repair kit. I don’t love that Kia does this but I understand why they do it.

Optimas start at just $21,000 so it’s possible to get an Optima without the $35,000 price tag. Remember that Kias have a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty and 5-year/60,000 mile limited warranty that is one of the best in the car industry. I love that you can plan to keep a Kia for a long time and not worry about selling it since it has such a short warranty.

My thoughts about this car are that it is a great car for a family. It’s roomy and spacious and has all of the fun bells and whistles you expect from a luxury car. You get the great Kia warranty and a reasonable price for everything you are getting. I know most people in the market for a $35,000 luxury sedan don’t look at Kia but they should!

I was given a Kia Optima SXL to drive for a week. All opinions are my own.

I love Kia, we have a 2010 Soul ! And we love it. I think this should be what we get for a 2nd car.

Swanky car! I fear there are waaaay too many buttons in that car and on the steering wheel, lol, but I love the look of the exterior of the car, but I wouldn’t pick white.

This is the car that Steve has and it really is an awesome car!!!! We love it even more than the Honda Accord which is what he drove for years! And the turbo power makes his car fun too. We own two Kia’s now, the Optima and Sedona and we will prob buy a Kia the next time around too. I’m sure you had fun driving it!!!

Air conditioned seats – didn’t know they made this. I want heated seats in my next car. Lovely car with all the bells & whistles.
