What is Your Super Power?

by Pennie on March 28, 2013

I didn’t realize that I had a super power for a long, long time.  I’m not sure if it developed over time, or it was full blown from day one.  Others recognized long before I did, and often utilized it much to their peace of mind.  You’re curious now aren’t you?  I don’t blame you, but I’m going to wait a little longer before I reveal it.

We’ve all seen super powers portrayed in comic books or graphic novels, on TV or in the movies.  They are stunning and flashy, out of the realm of mere human mortals.  Personally, I’ve always wanted to be able to fly.  Soaring up to the clouds, getting from place to place in a blink of an eye.  Here I go, off to Paris or the Great Barrier Reef or Hong Kong!

Thanks to

It would be kind of cool, except for my whole fear of heights thing.  That kind of puts a damper on the idea.  Super strength would be nice, but I think I would spend a lot of time helping people move and that would be a drag after a while.  X-ray vision?  Nah.  Controlling fire or water or ice?  Too esoteric.  Mind-reading would be too unnerving (and I really don’t want to know) and mind-control would be too much responsibility.

So no, I’m talking about more human super powers.  Like your neighbor who can ALWAYS be counted on to watch your kids when you have an emergency – No Questions Asked. Or your friend who never fails to call at the exact moment when you really need to talk to someone.  Or the guy you work with, who actually takes the allotted leave for volunteer work and volunteers, every year!

Ok, now let me tell you about my super power, it’s kind of two-fold.  At a pretty early age, people starting confiding in me.  Close friends at first.  Then acquaintances, and finally, people I didn’t know at all.  With friends I never really thought about it, I just thought it was what friends do.  But the less attached someone was to me, the more strange I began to think it was.  Complete strangers will tell me the most detailed information about their lives – maybe I just have one of those trustworthy faces.  But it’s shocking to me really.  Mostly because I’m a really private person.  Someone I worked with once asked me if I was in witness protection because I talked so little about myself!

And here is where the second part of the super power comes in, I can keep a secret. F O R E V E R.  No one will ever know what you told me.  Ever.  I think it’s why people keep telling me things.  Now that I’ve revealed myself to you, how about you?  What is your super power?

I am yet to realise what my super power is, but I appreciate yours because there are very few people left in this world who are innately loyal and noble about others’ privacy.

I think my super power is to help as many people as I can while I’m on earth. I love helping homeless people. I so blessed that I feel the need to help others less fortunate. My mom raised my sisters and I that way. I also raised my daughter that way. I’m not rich in money but I’m rich in Christ and I know as I gladly help people I’m helping Him. I guess that’s my secret but it’s not a secret anymore. :)
