Asian Cooking with San-J Products and Giveaway

by Nicole on June 4, 2013

Jamie was so happy to get this package from San-J foods – it was chock full of tamari, dressings and sauces and we both love Asian food! Jamie uses tamari at his work since it’s gluten free and I had never had it.  I love it! I won’t buy regular soy sauce ever again! The taste of the tamari is much richer and has more depth and I love that it is gluten free!

Look what’s cooking in the San-J kitchen! Introducing the new San-J Tamari Gluten Free Soy Sauce, previously San-J Premium Tamari Soy Sauce (Black Label)! This savory sauce used to contain a very small amount of wheat, and has now been reformulated to be completely gluten-free while maintaining the same rich, robust taste people have enjoyed for years. The natural fermentation process gives San-J Tamari great flavor enhancing properties. Not just for topping off steamed rice, you can add Tamari to soups, gravies, sauces and casseroles, or whip up a delicious Chicken Curry Salad (recipe below) or Mini Black Rice Bites! Use it as a marinade and in stir-fry dishes, too!

You can also enjoy all the benefits of Gluten Free Tamari with 28% less sodium. Like Premium Tamari Soy Sauce (Black Label), Reduced Sodium Tamari (White Label) has been reformulated to be completely gluten-free! Reduce sodium intake and enjoy the full flavor of your dish by adding 1 tsp. Gluten Free Reduced Sodium Tamari (237 mg sodium) instead of 1/2 tsp. salt (590 mg sodium). San-J products are available nationwide at Whole Foods Market or your local natural food store.

Check out this delicious San-J recipe that uses the gluten free tamari in a creative way!

Chicken Curry Salad

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cooked and cubed
  • 1 tart apple, cored and chopped
  • 6 green onions, finely sliced
  • 3 celery ribs, finely sliced
  • ½ cup golden raisins
  • ½ cup almonds, sliced
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 Tablespoons curry powder
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 Tablespoon San-J Gluten Free Tamari
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
  • 4 cups red lettuce leaves, cleaned and drained

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cubed chicken, apple, green onions, celery and raisins.
  2. Mix well.
  3. Add the almonds and mix again.
  4. Prepare the dressing by whisking together the mayonnaise, curry powder, cayenne pepper, San-J Gluten Free Tamari and lemon juice.
  5. Add the dressing to the chicken mixture and blend well with a soft spatula.
  6. Cover tightly and refrigerate for 1 hour or up to 4 hours.
  7. To serve, arrange the red lettuce leaves on 6 individual salad plates.
  8. Spoon the chicken salad over the lettuce in equal portions.
  9. Chill for 30 minutes and serve.
  10. Makes 6 Servings
  11. Note: You may also prepare the salad and use it as a filling for pita pockets or other sturdy sandwich breads.

We received assorted sauces and dressings to try as well and have had a ball trying all of them! My favorite dressing is is the peanut but Jamie likes the ginger a lot.  I love being able to make our salad Asian inspired with these super flavorful dressings! As far as the sauces go, I loved the sweet and tangy that we used with shrimp and Jamie liked the thai peanut that we used with chicken.  We kept our meals very simple, just stir frying the protein and some veggies in the sauce we selected – yum!
