Delicious Dairy Free Daiya Foods and Giveaway

Jamie and I first discovered Daiya Foods at the South Beach Wine and Food Festival in February.  They had created some fun recipes with the cheeses and we were amazed when we tasted them that they were dairy free! The Daiya story is a great one….

In Sanskrit, Dayaa means “loving, kindness and compassion”. To Andre Kroecher and Greg Blake, these are the values that our company was founded on. It was because of a love for food, a commitment to kind living, and compassion for you and our planet that began the journey to Daiya Foods. Known as an avid foodie with a passion for innovation, Andre had always experimented with new ways of conscious eating. Friends and vegans for over 20 years, he and Greg continually explored ways to combine great tasting food with a kind lifestyle. They wanted to prove that food can be flavorful and delicious without compromising their dedication to living compassionately.

Greg and Andre were known for their culinary skills, cooking impressive dishes that catered to every dietary need. However, no matter how they diced, sliced, or chopped, there was always something missing when they cooked their favorite dishes. They craved that one ingredient that bubbles, stretches, and melts. That one ingredient that awakens the palette with every rich and decadent bite. Cheese! After two years of mistakes, melt downs and minor catastrophes, their perserverance paid off. Daiya Style Shreds debuted at the Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim, California, the event where innovation gets noticed. It was love at first bite. Consumers raved about the new dairy free alternative never seen before in the vegan and allergen market. Through our continued success, our company still operates based on the same values on which it was born: love, kindness and compassion. The true meaning of Daiya.

They sell Daiya products at my local Whole Foods and the variety is amazing! They have cheese slices, wedges, shreds and frozen pizzas! We got to try the slices and the shreds and I swapped the shreds when we had tacos the other night and neither Jamie nor Noah said a word about it! Both were shocked when I revealed it to them!

Here is the recipe for the cheese quesadillas we got to taste – definitely make them, you’ll love them!

Cheese Quesadillas


  • 4 Sprouted Grain Tortillas
  • 1 Field Roast Mexican Chipotle Sausage Link
  • 1 Green Bell Pepper
  • 1 White Onion
  • 2 Tbsp Olive Oil (or Vegetable/Coconut Oil)
  • 1/2 pkg of Daiya Pepperjack Shreds


  1. Preheat oven to 400 F.
  2. Chop onion and bell pepper together.
  3. Heat oil in a skillet. Add the onion and bell pepper and cook until onion is just translucent, about 5 minutes.
  4. Crumble field roast sausage and add to the skillet.
  5. Cook for another two minutes until thoroughly mixed and heated throughout.
  6. On a cookie sheet, place two tortillas and cover each with Daiya cheese. Then add the sausage mixture. Top each with remaining Daiya cheese and place the remaining tortillas on top of both mixtures. Lightly press down with fingers or a spatula, and place in the oven (top rack, if possible).
  7. Cook for 7-10 minutes, or until tortillas are browned and cheese is melted.
  8. Enjoy with salsa, vegan sour cream, and freshly-made guacamole!
