07/16 Pinterest Pin(s) of the Week: Camping Ideas
I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not really the outdoorsy type. But I’m sure some of you are, so the topic this week is camping. I’ve only had a few camping experiences in my life and that was long ago when I was a Girl Scout. (Little known fact about me – I was a Girl Scout all the way through junior year of high school – I really loved it!) But while I had fun way back then, it really wasn’t because of the camping aspect of it.
Real camping (in a tent out in the wild) has 2 things associated with it that just turn me off. First thing is bugs; they just don’t respect my personal space. I like nature, I just don’t want it to mess with me. Second thing is lack of bathrooms; I like my facilities indoors, with running water and private! But for those that do, or might, enjoy staying in the great outdoors, here are some interesting things I found on Pinterest.
I traced this light source pin back to Life Pro Tip (@BestProTips) on twitter, although I found variations all over the place:
From Living On Less in the Northwest is this toilet paper holder! Seems like a reasonable idea to keep TP dry.
From Brenda Musgrave on Pinterest is this tip that adding sage to your campfire helps to keep mosquitoes and bugs away:
Here is a neat idea for help in starting campfires. Soak cotton swabs in wax and store them in a reclosable plastic bag. This pin seemed to originate at JJMathesHikes.blogspot.com, but it no longer exists, so I just have this picture.
Here is another tip for help with starting a campfire from The Green Wife. Upcycle toilet paper rolls and dryer lint!
Since you have to eat when you are camping here is a cool way (from Skruben.blogspot.com) to bring along some spices without taking too much room. (You may also want to peruse the Family Camping Essentials post on the same site!)
From REI is this info on keeping your campsite organized (it’s down in the middle of the page).
Here is a great idea for creating a mini first aid kit from ChasingGreen.org! These are so small, you could have a personalized version for every member of the family.
From Six Sisters’ Stuff is this compilation of 25 Delicious Camping Recipes. There is something for everyone in there!
Here is a good idea for a wash up station from Great Wild Outdoors.
And here is a picture of a completed station from Buzz Feed based on the above tip.
This last pin is from the Art of Manliness on cooking in a Dutch Oven or a Reflective Oven. I didn’t know such a thing as a reflective oven even existed, and while I’ve cooked in a dutch oven, it’s never been like this!
Ok, maybe these are things that every real camper knows about, but if you are like me, they might be enlightening. Maybe there are some ideas to get me out camping. Thanks Pinterest!
