Bad Things Come in 3s?

by Pennie on August 8, 2013

So a bit has happened since last we spoke.  I don’t think of myself as a superstitious person, so I’ll just say I’m having a run of bad karma.

You remember my car was making that grinding noise?  Well, I got it fixed and it wasn’t too expensive, so that’s good thing.

But then I broke a tooth when eating.  I don’t know what, probably something with nuts.  I had to go to the dentist, who said it needed a crown, but first I needed a root canal.  You recall I don’t have any insurance, correct?  A root canal is $1200 out of pocket and a crown is about $1500.

So I went to an endodontist and had that procedure.  A root canal is not too bad and I’m a wimp at the dentist, so that should tell you it really isn’t bad.  But before I could go back to the dentist, I developed a cold.  A really bad cold, which was both a head and a chest cold.  I coughed for 3 days straight.  Literally, I could not stop coughing.  It was gross.  I still have some congestion.

Then my grandson, whom I love more than life itself, head-butted my nose back into my skull.  Ok, maybe not literally, but it felt like that.  I immediately burst into tears, which scared him terribly.  I sat with an icepack on my face for about 20 minutes and luckily no black-eyes developed.  But it hurt like the dickens for days.

I still haven’t been back to the dentist, mind you.  That $1500 cost is looming heavily over my head.

And then my computer, a 7 year old iMac, which can no longer be upgraded and which has been getting slower and slower over the last 6 months, started glitching out on the video.  Random screens would go blank or jitter around like they were doing a jig.  Slow I can deal with, no picture is a whole other story.  So in a fit of frustration this past Sunday night, I realized enough was enough and I ordered a new one online.

As you may know, Apple computers are not cheap, and because of all the tech work I do, I need one that is pretty high end.  I don’t even like to think about what it cost me.  But it is a necessary item.  So I did it.

Which means I’ve put off going back to the dentist yet again.  This cannot go on.

I really need to win the lottery this week, but considering my bad karma streak, I don’t think that is going to happen.  So I’m waiting to see what happens next in my life.  In the words of Chandler Bing (Friends), “Could my luck be any worse?”.

When it rains it pours. I’ve never had a root canal and hope never to have one. The cost might hurt worse than the procedure. I hope your luck improves.
