I’m Getting a Little Excited for the Holidays

by Pennie on October 24, 2013

I used to be one of those people who had all of their Christmas shopping done by Thanksgiving.  But then my life sort of crashed and burned and that fell away for me.  The last few years I’ve pretty much ignored the holidays until the last minute.

But yesterday, I found myself looking at Christmas decorations and crafts on Pinterest.  And I’ve not been annoyed by Christmas displays along side Halloween displays in the stores.  I mean, if I think about it, Christmas decorations up in October is kind of ludicrous, but this year it’s not bothering me so much.  The lighted trees on shelves are kind of making me warm & happy inside.  I’m trying to think up projects to use up the rolls of ribbon I’ve had for years so I might get some new ones.

Mind you, it’s not like I have any more money to spend on presents than I’ve had in the past several years.  But I’m trying to think of simple craft projects that would bring back the spirit of Christmas that I felt when I was a kid.  Perhaps it is the influence of the grandkids.  Perhaps I’m feeling a little less unstable than I have over the past few years.  Or maybe I just want to be a kid again.

Whatever it is, I like it.  I hope it continues straight through the beginning of the new year.  It would be great to start a new year with some hope and a positive feeling.

I used to have all my shopping done by the end of October, but with a tighter economy, have to spread things out more. So now things don’t get done as early. It’s not bothering me about the displays in the stores. I’m working on a Christmas Fabric project and need to buy Christmas ribbon and fabric glue to finish it off. I just may hang it up on the wall before Thanksgiving if I get it done. Definitely not going to be around the sis-in-law this Christmas. If we are invited to anything she’ll be at, won’t be going. She is just too rude and foul mouthed, and drains the happiness from everyone else. My hubs is even watching some of the Christmas programs already on TV and he usually says bah humbug to all the Christmas programming. So, I actually think he wants Christmas to come this year too. Must be something in the water, you think? HO, HO, HO and I mean the robust laugh of Santa and not the ho, ho, ho a pimp might be talking about. LOL.
