Play Clubs by North Star Games

by Nicole on October 7, 2013

We are a card playing family and enjoy spending an evening every few weeks playing cards together.  It used to be Old Maid and Uno when Noah was younger but now that he is 8 we have introduced some more complex games to the mix.  We were excited to try out Clubs and on a recent rainy night got some snacks together and sat down as a family to play.

Clubs combines trick-taking fun with a hint of risk. It’s simple enough for kids, strategic enough for adults. The deck of 60 unique cards opens a new world of play for card game lovers. The goal is simple: get rid of all your cards as fast as possible. At the same time, you’ll want to take tricks with clubs in them, because they are the only cards that score points. But watch out! The last player to get rid of their cards scores nothing, even if they have a huge pile of clubs. Pick up Clubs…and win! For 2-6 players. Play time approximately 30 minutes. For ages 8 and older.

We had a blast playing this game.  Once Noah understood how it was played he really got into it! This is a trick taking game and the object is to get rid of all of your cards.  Jamie and I found this game to be complex enough that we enjoyed playing it and Noah found it simple enough that he enjoyed playing it.  This is a win-win! I was happy watching Noah as he began to understand some of the nuances of the game and the first time we played we helped him with some strategy until he understood.  We also liked the game time is about 30 minutes and we ended up playing a best 3 out of 5 with yours truly taking home the championship!

This game is available at local hobby stores and also online at places like Amazon.  You can learn more about North Star Games by checking out their website and following them on Facebook and Twitter.
