The little man in my life, my grandson, is turning 5 this weekend. So many abilities are learned in the first few years of life that it hard to recall them all. From being born at 10 lbs. 4 oz. to taking those first few bites of rice cereal, to uttering his first sounds and first words, his weird half crawling and then straight on to walking.
Our little Bubba (as we call him in good southern fashion) can be a handful. He has more energy than a NASA rocket, loves fruits and veggies and technology. Every since he first got his hands on an iPod, he has been amazingly adept at running one. He can also use all of our cell phones (to play games), log us all out of out of our computers and log himself in so he can play games. But you have to beware because, sometimes, he likes to change the settings on a device, just because.
He has gone through phases of which shows he likes to watch on TV. First it was Yo Gabba Gabba, then Blue’s Clues, Sid the Science Kid, Word World and Phineas and Ferb. But when he hangs out with Granma, we watch Gibbs (NCIS). He knows how to get me to watch TV!
While at first he did not want his little sister when she came home from the hospital (for 2 days he wouldn’t be in the same room with her), just yesterday he tried to soothe her from crying by giving her a hug and trying to make her laugh. And while he never wants her to play with his toys and takes them from her, he always gives her one of her own toys to replace it. I think that is a step in the right direction.
Right now, he is Daddy’s little man because they like to roughhouse together. But for most of his life, Granma was his BFF. I’m ok with the switch for now, because when he gets upset he still wants a hug from me. I couldn’t ask for anything more.
Happy Birthday, Little Man!
