12/10 Pinterest Pin(s) of the Week: Christmas Stockings

by Pennie on December 10, 2013

I don’t know about you, but I’ve had the same Christmas stocking for a very long time.  It’s not the one from my childhood, to be truthful, I really don’t know where it came from.  But it has been around as long as my daughter can remember, so it can never, ever be changed.  Every once in a while, I feel like I’d like to try a new one, but my daughter would be devastated.  If you are just starting your family and want to have matching stockings, or just like change, here are some DIY stockings that I found cute or pretty or interesting.

Here is a great tutorial from Anna at  This a great stocking, good design with lining, batting and finished off very neatly.  My only warning: that name is hand embroidered on there!

If you have or are around kids at all then you must know about the Minions from the Despicable Me movies.  Apparently San at is a huge Minion fan and created this crocheted Minion Christmas Stocking.  My grandson would LOVE this!

Have a sweater you don’t wear any more?  Upcycle it into a Stocking!  While there are no instructions, I think all you would need is a template and then sew around the edges and Voila!  Thanks to Pattyism on Tumblr.
Jennifer at Celebrating Every Day Life has created the most gorgeous stocking out of (of all things) a dropcloth.  I can’t believe how elegant she made such an ordinary thing look!  Of course she added some embellishments, but basically just some ribbon.  It’s beautiful and durable!

I’m seeing a lot of burlap stocking Pins, but I’m not sure that burlap would really hold it’s shape well.  So from Ambro at Me + Three {and counting}  here is an Easy DIY Christmas Stocking, that uses burlap as trim!

Love this traditional felt stocking with a twist!  From Carolyn’s Home Work, the felt is hand stitched together with white embroidery thread and the fringe is made from yarn.  This is so cute as it is, but you could bling it up anyway you want!

Here is another very simple felt stocking made elegant with a double fabric single initial monogram.  Marissa from Oh My Handmade Goodness gives complete instructions on how to create this lovely stocking!

I really like up-cycling old items instead of trashing them, especially if they are worn and can’t really be used by someone else.  So here is a perfect stocking from Michele at Sew Sweet Vintage: the Denim Christmas Stocking.  What a fabulous idea!

Just in case you don’t have a mantel to hang those stockings from, here is a clever alternative from Beyond the Picket Fence: a Scrap Wood Stocking Hanger!

Just fifteen days until Christmas!  I hope I can get everything done, especially when I spend so much time on Pinterest!
