Elmo & Murray Learn about the Gettyburg Address

by Pennie on February 27, 2014

SesameStreetElmo may know how to get to Sesame Street, but in searching for the Gettysburg Address, he is totally lost! Good thing Sesame Street founder, Joan Ganz Cooney, can guide him to success!

GettysburgAddressIn this adorable video – made as part of Ken Burns’ outreach campaign, Learn the Address – Joan Ganz Cooney explains to Elmo and his friend Murray that the Gettysburg Address isn’t a place, but one of the most important speeches ever made in American history. Check out the clip:

Other notables who have participated in the campaign include President Barack Obama, Steven Spielberg, Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, who have joined together to celebrate American freedom on the 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address.  You can join in this endeavor by video recording yourself delivering the speech and uploading it for others to view!  Learn how here: http://www.learntheaddress.org/submit-video/.

I feel very inspired to make one of these recordings myself after hearing so many people reciting the speech!

As part of the commemoration, Ken Burns is also releasing, “The Address,” a documentary airing on PBS about a small school in Vermont for boys with learning differences on April 19th.
