My Triplets Turning 1!

by Nicole on January 12, 2015

This has been such an emotional last few weeks for me.  This time last year I was in the hospital on strict bedrest with constant fetal monitoring and hoping to keep my triplets in as long as possible.  I keep looking at pictures of me in the hospital and it’s a blur but some things I can remember so keenly.  This weekend was their first birthday party and their birthday is tomorrow.

I am just in shock they are 1.  And I am so very thankful that they are here and healthy and happy and mine.  Their smiles bring more joy than I ever thought and I love them more than I thought capable.  This year has been so very tough – 9 weeks early, 33, 37 and 44 days in the NICU, sleepless nights, teething, worrying, etc.  We did all and times 3!

There are definitely products that made our lives easier and helped the babies so much.  We are a Pampers family all the way and have used only Dreft laundry detergent since the babies were born.  They have sensitive skin but haven’t had any issues with Dreft or the Pampers Swaddlers and Sensitive wipes! I’m not surprised to learn that these favorite products of ours have won the 2015 What-to-Expect Mom’s Love -It Award! Of course they did!

Babies “R” Us and Pampers are ringing in the New Year with some exciting news! Pampers Swaddlers and Sensitive Wipes have won the 2015 What-to-Expect Mom’s Love -It Award! Babies “R” Us offers award-winning brands that are perfect to help celebrate all of your baby’s milestones – from Pampers, the #1 choice of hospitals, Dreft, the #1 choice of pediatricians and even Duracell, the #1 trusted brand of parents, pharmacists, and first responders. Moms can feel confident walking into Babies “R” Us knowing she can get ALL the products she not only loves and trusts, but NEEDS to ensure a safe and seamless milestone moment. Because let’s face it; moms always end up using more than they think especially when it comes to laundry detergent, diapers and batteries right?

From Jan 2. – Jan. 17, with a purchase of Pampers Jumbo Pack diapers or Easy-Up training pants, Pampers value box of wipes (13x) & Dreft 50oz detergent, you receive a $10 Babies “R” Us gift card! What a great deal – we will definitely be taking advantage of this great savings as we stock up on our favorite products!

I received product and compensation for this post. All opinions are my own.

I’m So Thankful

by Nicole on December 1, 2014

2014-11-27 06.28.35

2014 has been a big year for me! It started with me in the hospital waiting for the babies.  Then the birth of the triplets and well, the whole year has been consumed by babies! The good news is that the babies are doing so well, although 9 weeks premature and are all sitting and crawling! So much movement! It is hard to keep up with them but I am just so thankful this year!

Here are my top 5 things I am thankful for this year:

1.  Healthy family.  9 weeks premature is so scary.  Thankfully they spent time in the NICU, get therapy every week and are progressing wonderfully.

2.  Help from others.  You can’t imagine what it is like to have 3 babies unless you have 3 babies.  It is so much work.  Having help is something I will never take for granted.

3. Being able to be home with the babies.  Surviving on one salary is hard but it’s a sacrifice that is important to us.  I love being home with the babies but this is by far the hardest job I have ever had.

4.  Products that make my life easier like tommee tippee pacifiers.  My babies soothe with pacifiers and with 3 babies we need a lot of pacifiers! They prefer the tommee tippee variety and so do I!

5. The future.  Our future is so bright.  Our family is complete and I love watching the babies grow and develop personalities!

I know Pennie announced in January that my triplets had arrived but I haven’t said much about them or properly introduced them yet! How cool is my triplet birth announcement? I searched for a long time to find exactly what I wanted and Amy’s Card Creations had a large selection of triplet announcements at great prices! I had to order them.

by Nicole on January 1, 2014

Happy New Year!

I hope 2014 brings you everything you hope it does!

As far as me, 2014 looks to be the most exciting of my life with the arrival of these 3 little girls! I am currently in the hospital on bedrest and while it is super hard for me, my husband and my family, it is the best place for me and the babies to be safe.  They should be here in the next few weeks and I will keep you updated!

Thanks for being a Nicole’s Nickels reader – I truly appreciate each and every one of you!

BIG News!

by Nicole on September 18, 2013

I have some BIG news to share!

Many of you all know I got married early last year and that I’m not exactly young.  Well, I’m 37 which I guess is relatively young but by fertility standards not so much.  Jamie and I started trying and had some difficulties conceiving.  It was a huge struggle for me and one I chose to bear in a non-public fashion.  Infertility is the hardest thing I have ever gone through in my life and I know many of you share my struggles.

We turned to ART (assistive reproductive technology) and the testing and testing and testing started.  It felt endless but with a goal as important as a child in mind you persevere.

I’m happy to announce that I am now 15 weeks pregnant.

But that’s not really the news.

I am pregnant….with TRIPLETS!

We are pretty sure they are all girls as my early genetic testing via blood showed no Y chromosomes present and our ultrasound this week seems to confirm 3 girls.  At least 2 of them are identical (could be all 3 but that would be super rare).

We did IVF and responsibly transferred 2 embryos.  The chance of even one of them implanting and becoming a take home baby was around 40%.  It turns out we were overachievers in the IVF department and one of the embryos split.  We’ve known since very early on that it’s triplets.  Fortunately each baby is in their own gestational sac with their own placenta which cuts down on complications.  It is. however, a very high risk pregnancy.  I will be written out of work on disability at around 19 weeks and may have to spend time on bedrest and in the hospital before delivering.

My 40 week due date is March 12, 2014 but the doctor won’t let me go past 35 weeks.  32 weeks is average gestation for triplets and the last trimester becomes a race against time to keep the babies inside as long as possible.

Jamie and I are thrilled and understandably overwhelmed.  We are so excited to welcome these 3 little girls into our family and hope that you’ll keep me and these babies in your thoughts…

It seems like the job was meant for me, but it was pure coincidence!

I am a southerner, born and bred. Then I moved to and lived in New England for most of my adult life, but now have returned to the land of sweet tea and hush puppies.  I am the mother of one daughter and grandmother of one grandson and we all (along with my son-in-law)  live together in North Carolina with my 2 sweet dogs and my daughter’s 2 sort-of sweet cats.

By trade, I am a techie, by spirit I am a DIYer.  Thanks to channels like HGTV, I cannot look at a scrap of anything without seeing it transition into something new and wonderful.  I have built things as mundane as bookcases and as serious as a handicap ramp. I have installed flooring, and tiles and even built walls.  I will paint anything.  While I am willing to admit that some wallpaper is attractive, I cannot look at it without assessing how much work it is to remove!

I sew – still waiting for a granddaughter so I can make some of those cute little pillowcase dresses!  I’ve crocheted my whole life, from shawls to Christmas ornaments.  And I knit, but I’m a beginner…for about 10 years now.  In all this time I’ve never made anything that isn’t flat.  Well, there is this one hat:

Which looks round but is really flat, just a rectangle that is crocheted together at the ends and gathered together at the top.  But it’s a step in the right direction.

So those are the basics about me.  You will continue to see posts by me on a regular basis.  I hope you enjoy the new direction the site is going and I hope you will give us feedback on our posts and what you like or would like to see on the site.

Changes at Nicole’s Nickels

by Nicole on September 25, 2012

When I started Nicole’s Nickels in February of 2009 (3 1/2 years ago!) there were not that many deal bloggers and I posted 3 times per day.  Since I work full time outside the house the 3 times per day was all I could do.  Even then I sometimes felt like I was missing a great deal if it happened during the day, but my readers were loyal and I stayed with the 3 posts per day for a long time.

As the economy worsened and Extreme Couponing became everyday verbiage the deal blogging world exploded and I felt  like I needed to post 10, 15, even 20 times per day to keep up.  I hired an assistant, then two, and felt like I was never caught up.  The funny thing is that I recently realized that you, the readers, didn’t seem to care if I posted 3 times per day or 20.  You stayed loyal and came back to see what I had to say.  And I thank you for that.

So it’s time for Nicole’s Nickels to change.  I’m moving away from posting coupons and deals and towards posting brand info, reviews, giveaways, recipes, travel info, and the occasional great deal.  You’ll read more stories about my family and my experiences.  These are the posts you all comment on anyway and I have the most traffic on.  I’ll probably be posting 3 times per day and you’ll get to know my assistant Pennie as well.  Pennie will introduce herself in a post this week – I’m sure you’ll enjoy reading what she has to say!

If you’re looking for a deal/coupon blog with 20 posts per day Nicole’s Nickels is no longer the place for you.  If you send me an email I’m happy to refer you to some of my blogging friends who fit the bill for that.  You’ll notice my tagline has now changed to “Always giving you more than my 2 cents” which is a play off the Nickels in my blog name.  My navigation bar is updated to show you the kinds of things I will be blogging about.  If you’re looking for older posts they can be found under the “deals” tab.   You can still expect a review or giveaway every day and I’ll continue my brand work as ambassador for several companies.  I’ll also give you some recipes, Top 10 Giveaways, Friday Freebies, a Pin of the Week post and much more! I’m open to suggestions so please comment or send me an email if you want me to consider something.

I hope you’ll stick around to check out the new and improved Nicole’s Nickels!
