Price of Product: $45.00

Where can the product be purchased:  online at http://www.etsy.com/shop/solsticed

Description of Product: ”As seen in the May issue of Family Circle magazine.  “The Courage Within” necklace is adorned with three stacked charms: a sterling silver heart, a hand-hammered copper circlet; and a sterling silver coin hand-stamped with the word “Courage”. Collectively they represent the strength and the “courage” within every woman’s heart. The necklace is on an 18 inch sterling chain.  A $5 donation will be made to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence in honor of each piece sold. The piece will arrive wrapped and ready for gifting with an enclosure card describing its meaning and that a donation was made in honor of the purchase.  Your card will read: This necklace honors all women and their “Courage Within”. In honor of this purchase a donation is made to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence.”

Review of Product:   I received many requests for inclusion in my Valentine’s Gift Guide but the request from Solstice Designs was so heartfelt and for such a good cause that I had to include it.  I work regularly in my “real life” with domestic violence victims and have seen firsthand how heartbreaking situations can be.  The necklace is beautiful and it is for a good cause – to me, that is the perfect gift! I was most touched to hear that last year Solstice gave 400 children in domestic violence shelters across the country the necklace for them to give to THEIR mothers while in the shelter.  I will do whatever I can to support businesses such as this and will wear my necklace very proudly.

Review of Product:  I got samples of the original toffee, the peanut toffee and the coffee toffee.  I found the toffee to be very pure tasting and super gooey and sticky – the way toffee should be! The packaging was straightforward and not at all pretentious.  This is just some really tasty traditional toffee, very flavorful and fresh.  The card I received with the toffee says “nutritional content – none whatsoever, but you’ll die happy.”  That made me laugh!

Valentine’s Gift Guide: Bottled Up Designs Jewelry Review

by nicolesnickels on February 9, 2010

Name of Product:  Pink Depression Glass Rectangle Pendant from Bottled Up DesignsPink_Depression__4a64dc7740a5f_200x200

Price of Product:  $67.00

Where can the product be purchased:  online at www.bottledupdesigns.com

Description of Product:  ”The eco friendly/green movement is the hottest trend in America I think because people finally see they can have beautiful fashion and still be environmentally friendly and Bottled Up Designs is a remarkable new line of jewelry made from antique glass and bottles reclaimed from antique bottle dumps throughout natural wooded habitats and rural farmlands throughout the Pennsylvania Amish Country.    This is done in an effort to help the environment and protect wildlife by removing this hazard.  Each piece is handmade from this antique glass and comes with “The Story of the Glass” detailing what the glass was originally and the age of the piece and mounted on recycled card stock.  It is a truly unique way to preserve the past while helping the future.  From delicate and lovely antique pink depression glass.  The broken pieces of various dishware have been reclaimed and hand cut to 5/8″ in width, x 1 1/2″ in length, wrapped in sterling and hangs on your choice sterling chain.”

Review of Product:  I love pink depression glass – it reminds me of a set of my grandmother’s dishes that my mother now has and will eventually be mine.  It’s so delicate and almost transparent with a pinkish tinge.  I was excited to get this necklace as it is made from pink depression glass.  It has a design on it from the dish and has silver on the top where it is affixed to the chain.  The chain is thick and appropriate given the size of the pendant.  It is a very unique piece but one that can be easily worn with jeans for a casual look or a dress for a more elegant accent.  I was impressed by the large selection of items Bottled Up Designs has, each one more unique than the next.

I received a sample of this product to review at no charge but my opinions remain my own.

Valentine’s Gift Guide: Pillowcasegram Review & Giveaway

by nicolesnickels on February 9, 2010

Name of Product:   Pillowcasegram FoodandDrink_Coffeewithfriendc

Price of Product:  from $19.95

Where can the product be purchased:  online at http://www.pillowcasegram.com

Description of Product: From the owner – “Everyone uses a pillowcase, whether they are someone who has everything or they are downsizing. So I created Pillowcasegram to make everyone’s pillowcases more fun. My family and I live in Westfield, New York, where we own a 30-acre farm, which has 12 acres of Concord Grapes. When I’m not sewing, I love walking my dogs through the vineyard with my husband and sons. I decided to start Pillowcasegram after I had sent some family and friends pillowcases and was really surprised at how much they loved them. Of course, I knew they were a beautiful gift, but I didn’t expect such an enthusiastic reaction, especially from our male friends. They absolutely loved them! It’s a gift that they really use. So the idea of Pillowcasegram was born. We spend one-third of our lives with our heads on our pillows. . . so make them fun!”

Review of Product:   I requested a pillowcase for a friend of mine with a home-based baking business.  It has adorable cupcakes on it and is personalized with her business name.  The workmanship is exquisite and it is such a great gift for this gal who has everything! She could even use itt o display her goods at a fair or craft table, etc.  The selection of fabrics is quite large and there is something for everyone – categories range from school spirit to bridal to animals.

Review of Product:  These were the most artistic looking chocolates I have ever seen.  They were shockingly beautiful, so much so that I honestly felt bad eating them! But I am glad I did for however beautiful they were aesthetically, they were even more delicious in my mouth! The 4 piece collection contains a creme brulee heart truffle, a raspberry chambord truffle, an extra-bittersweet Valentine truffle, and a pink champagne heart truffle.  Each one was more delicious than the one before.  They were super creamy and rich and while not very large in size, very satisfying.  These would make a great gift for a chocoholic or anyone who appreciates beautiful things.

A CrazyStick is THE PERFUME REVOLUTION! One CrazyStick is sold every 2 minutes in the world!”

Review of Product:  I received the set of 3 perfume sticks that contained the following scents:  In Love, Cherie Louise, and Vanilla Pom d’Amour.  I love how handy these are – they are small enough to fit in your bag with no spills or leaking! The perfume is a sold stick that you simply turn like a lipstick to get more perfume.  It’s a simple concept that works beautifully.  I like sweet smelling perfumes the best and the Vanilla Pom d’Amour is perfect for me! The other 2 had more floral notes to them which is not my thing.  I gave them to friends who both loved the scents – to each their own when it comes to perfume, right?

Giveaway:   The folks over at Crazylibellule and the Poppies have graciously decided to give two (2) of my readers their own “free and in love” sets containing 3 perfumes each.

The twist-action ball pen is equipped with a large-capacity black refill in broad point. Get back to the basics of great writing with Mondoro! Every girl is looking to fill her keepsake box with a love note from that special someone but in this technology driven world, handwritten notes seem to be a thing of the past. Get your man an elegant pen from Faber-Castell so he can write in style in the boardroom and maybe it’ll inspire him to reach for the pen instead of that keyboard the next time he writes you a  love note.

Review of Product:  The Mondoro arrived in a nice white case, a stark contrast to the gleaming black of the pen iteself.  The end pieces are metal and the end result is an elegant and very masculine pen, the perfect gift for that special man in your life.  The barrel is shaped like a hexagon which makes this pen really stand out above others.  It fit comfortably in my hand and I found the writing to be smooth and even.  This is the kind of pen you would expect to see in the boardroom and definitely gives a boost of self-confidence to the owner.

Valentine’s Gift Guide: Plantronics Bluetooth Headset

by nicolesnickels on February 6, 2010

image001Name of Product:  Plantronics Bluetooth Headset – Discovery 975

Price of Product:  $129.00

Where can the product be purchased:  Best Buy, Verizon stores, Apple stores, AT&T Stores, Radio Shack and Sprint stores as well as online

Description of Product:  ”Headsets keep loved ones safely connected behind the wheel. With more and more states cracking down on talking while driving, they will also make sure that special someone avoids a ticket.  The Discovery 975 Bluetooth headset ($129) was designed to be sleek and stylish. Voted Editor’s Choice by CNET in August, the 975 allows you to stay connected on the go without sticking an obtrusive gadget to your face.  The tiny charging case actually triples talk-time to give the Discovery over 15 hours.”

Review of Product:  I used to have a Bluetooth headset but promptly lost it (which is not like me!) and never bothered to replace it.  I know how dangerous it is to drive holding the phone and have been looking for ways to go hands-free for some time now.  I was hapy to receive this product for review and have been using it for several weeks now.  I am really picky when it comes to putting things in my ears and find headphones usually uncomfortable.  This headset was super comfortable and I’ve worn it for extended periods of time.  The carrying case is a nice added benefit  and I never get anyone asking me to repeat myself when I am talking using the headset.  You can definitely get Bluetooth headsets at much cheaper prices but you’ll get much less talk time and less comfort, 2 things I’m personally not willing to sacrifice.

I received a sample of this product to review at no charge but my opinions remain my own.
